Interest Groups are available for all members and you can join any time during the year. If you are interested in any of the special Interest Groups, inquire by email at interests@gainesvillenewcomersclub.com or contact the group leader for additional details.
Antique Exploring – Nona Stacks or Patsy Viles
Meets on the second Thursday of each month and travels to various antique stores in North Georgia. A great way to get to know the area and add to your collections.
Bridge for Couples – Rosalie Minnich or Jeanie Para
Couples Bridge meets on a Friday evening once a month. Divided into 3 groups - each meet one Friday a month (1st, 2nd or 3rd Friday).
Bridge for Ladies – Pam Cohan
Join this group on the third Monday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at O'Charlies on Brown's Bridge Road. Experienced and novice players are welcome. Contact Pam for openings and details.
Bunko-Daytime – Coral Gleason
Meets on first Wednesday morning at Panera Bread Company. Bunko is a dice game – easy to play and lots of fun.
Bunko-Evenings – Pat Shockey or Sandy Murphy
Meets on first Monday evening at 6:30 pm in various members’ homes. Bunko is a dice game – easy to play and lots of fun.
Cultural Arts and Events - Patricia Louko
Group members receive a semi-monthly update of Gainesville area activities and meet as a group for gallery openings, Brenau events, etc., as the group desires.
Dining Out – Eleanor Coppedge or Judie Meyer
This group meets at various restaurants around our area on the third Thursday at 6:30 pm. It’s a great way to get to know other members and some of our great eating places. Husbands are welcome. Please note time changes for the holidays! Updates are in the GNC Newsletter.
Dominoes-Mexican Train - Pinky Pearce or Dana Carlson
This is a simple game that can be played with two or more players. Anyone can learn in five minutes and it's fun, fast and easy. The daytime group will meet the 1st Thursday of each month at 10:00 am. The evening group will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm.
Gardening – Linda Harris or Michelle Canfield
This group is being led by two Master Gardeners. Join us on the second Monday of each month at 9:30 am to learn more about local gardening and outings to nurseries or members' gardens. A fun experience.
Golf - Peggy Barfield
This group meets the 4th Thursday of each month. Reservations to Peggy Barfield the Tuesday before we meet on Thursday. All levels accommodated.
Gourmet for Couples – Ann Curry or Rita Toomey (October is the deadline to sign up.)
This is a fun group to join if you and your spouse are willing to host six others for dinner once a year. Four couples are assigned together as a group. The host is responsible for the main meal while the other three couples bring the appetizer, salad and dessert. NOTE: The October Luncheon Meeting is the last month you can sign up for the year because the groups need to be formed.
Gramdma's Closet - Judie Meyer
Do you have toys, port-a-cribs, car seats or handicap aids that you are willing to share with fellow Newcomers who have gradchildren who visit, or those who may have short term medical needs for items such as walkers or wheel chairs. If you would like to participate, sign up and Judie will coordinate the borrowing and distribution by sending an SOS to the group when a need is identified.
Hiking Group – Jenny Kitchens or Pat DeNote
Explore the North Georgia mountains on foot the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Hikes range from easy to pretty hard. Check the newsletter each month for planned outings and times.
Lunch Bunch - Pat Munhall or Lois Shoemaker
Join us on the second Tuesday of the month as we explore new and fun venues throughout the year. Meet new friends in a relaxed atmosphere. Check the newsletter for upcoming times and special venues.
Mah Jong – Ruth Johnson
Mah Jong is a Chinese tile game. The group meets the 2nd and 4th Monday's of the month. Both the Chinese and American versions are played. Open to all skill levels and new players are always welcome.
Morning Coffee – Rosemary Munsen or Judie Meyer
Meets the second Wednesday of each month in members' homes. Great way to meet members in a relaxed small-group setting and new members are especially welcome.
Reading Group - Gertrude Rocco
The Reading Group meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Hall Book Exchange at 1854 Thompson Bridge Road. Books are chosen and discussed monthly by the group.
Sun, Sail & Ale – Renee Bernstein
Fantastic activity which includes husbands! Join the host by car or sometimes by boat. This group meets one Sunday a month from 3-5 pm. Bring a dish to share and your own drink.
NOTE: Sun, Sail & Ale will be taking a break for the rest of this year. Meetings will resume in January 2012.
Warm Up America – Amy Schick
This group knits and crochets baby items for Newborns in need AND afghans for the American Red Cross. All skill levels are welcome (even beginners). We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am.
Wine Explorers - Joan Gordon
